It’s called Women’s Empowerment…near the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen. The program also helps homeless women and their kids with dental checkups, eye-glasses and other healthcare needs.  

Amber Stott is a spokeswoman.

She says some of their long-term grant funders haven’t been able to give as much this year because of the economic crisis.

“..and when we went back to them for renewal they said ‘check back in the second quarter of 2010.’ And when somebody who has gotten stable with their mental health issues finds out that that service has been eliminated it puts them at a really difficult place.”  

Stott says they’re still $8,220 short of a $45,000 goal. She says that’s what it will take to keep funding the healthcare component of their program…which serves 250-women and children.
