Confirmation of Lt. Gov. Uncertain

The Governor tapped GOP Senator Abel Maldonado for the Lieutenant Governor’s post --- and Democratic Senate Leader Darrell Steinberg says he has grave concerns about the choice. Steinberg says he’s worried about the cost of an election to fill the empty Senate seat.  But the Governor is already pushing hard for Maldonado’s confirmation. At a joint appearance, Schwarzenegger praised the Republican as the most qualified for the job:

This is like a marriage. The Senator and I have been soulmates from the beginning.”

Maldonado  was emotional. He said there was no limit on dreams in California – and he was honored by the nomination. The legislature has 90 days to act confirm or reject Maldonado.
